Telcos to seek relaxation in 26GHz rollout rules due to lack of device ecosystem

New Delhi: Telecom operators are likely to approach the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), seeking relaxations in rollout obligations for the 26 GHz band, also known as millimeter (mmWave), citing the absence of a device ecosystem to support these airwaves, industry executives said.

They added that the telecom industry will soon write to the DoT seeking relaxations in rollout norms as putting up infrastructure won’t yield any result due to the lack of a device ecosystem. The spectrum holders say they are hopeful of a favourable response from the DoT as it’s an industry-wide issue.
