Telcos should get atleast 80MHz for 5G services: Trai chairman PD Vaghela

NEW DELHI: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India chairman PD Vaghela said that each telecom operator should get at least 80MHz of 5G spectrum if not 100Mhz for launching 5G services.

“If not 100 MHz, then at least 80 MHz. 100 MHz is ideal. We are clear that we cannot give an inadequate spectrum to the telecom sector. That will be detrimental to the sector. It makes them dependable on the government,” Vaghela said during a Business Today panel discussion and noted that inadequate availability of spectrum may affect the investment decisions of telcos.

Industry association COAI, which represents Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), had also asked the telecom department to ensure optimum availability of spectrum in the 3300-3600 mid-band earmarked for 5G services.
