Telcos need to evolve into service creator role to monetise 5G: Ericsson executive

Telecom operators need to evolve into a service creator role from just being a connectivity provider to monetise 5G aptly, according to an executive from Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson.

Looking at the operators globally, telecom players here need to step up from being a connectivity provider to a service creator role and take charge to drive the partnership and end-to-end device and system integration. “The potential is there (for 5G monetisation) but somebody has to step up to pull the ecosystem together to make it work end-to-end,” Ng Thiaw Seng, Head of Strategic Network Evolution – Market Area South East Asia, Ocean & India, Ericsson said in an interview with ETTelecom.
