Tech giant told to pay for damage to laptop

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered Apple India Pvt Ltd to refund a consumer for a damaged laptop, pay him Rs 25,000 in damages for the short circuit caused by a faulty adapter and Rs 10,000 extra towards compensation for injuries caused to his nine-month-old daughter.

In September 2015, Haresh Rajpara, a researcher with the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), purchased Apple’s MacBook Air from a city store for Rs 82,033. A month later, there was a short circuit in the device’s USB port near the Magsafe 2 power port.
