Storage on smartphones set to soar with new 1TB microSD cards
Remember a time when getting an extra 4GB or 8GB (if you were in an extravagant mood) of SD card gave you the feeling of having immense storage on your smartphone? Well, technology evolved and slowly smartphone makers started offering more respectable amounts of storage yet they relied on users to buy microSD cards. Even now with Samsung offering 1TB of in-built storage with its latest flagship smartphone – the Galaxy S10 Plus – microSD cards are making a statement of intent.
At the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 in Barcelona, the SD Association has announced a new storage format for smartphones which are supposedly the “fastest memory cards for mobile devices.” In addition to that, two companies have also unveiled the world’s first 1TB microSD cards.
As per several news reports, both Micron and Western Digital’s Sandisk have launched the world’s first 1TB microSD cards.
