Startup founders feel vindicated with the Epic Win over Google

Indian app developers and startup founders are cheering gaming company Epic Games’ win over Google in an antitrust case in the US, saying they feel “vindicated” and expect “positive ripple effects” on similar cases in India and elsewhere.

“It’s been a long time coming and I am glad governments and (anti)-monopoly commissions worldwide are finally taking action,” Anupam Mittal, CEO of Shaadi.com, told ET. “As startup founders, we feel vindicated,” he said.

Epic Games on Tuesday won the antitrust case against Google, with the jury in San Francisco siding with the Fortnite maker’s claim that Google is acting as a “monopoly”. The gaming company had claimed during the trial that Google’s practice of taking as much as 30% commission on its Play Store leads to stifling of competition and a reduction in innovation.
