Spouses of H-1B visa holders can work in US, says judge
WASHINGTON: A US District Judge, Tanya Chutkan, has granted foreign workers in the US tech sector a significant relief by ruling that spouses of H-1B visa holders are eligible to work in the country. This decision was made as Judge Chutkan dismissed a lawsuit filed by Save Jobs USA, who aimed to revoke the Obama-era regulation that granted employment authorization cards to spouses of certain categories of H-1B visa holders.
The lawsuit was opposed by prominent tech companies such as Apple, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. Almost 100,000 work authorizations have been issued by the US to spouses of H-1B workers, with a considerable number of them being Indians.
