Spectrum Auction

In six days and 31 rounds, the spectrum auction ended on October 6, 2016. Spectrum in six bands – 700, 800, 1800, 2100, 2300 & 2500 MHz – was offered in auction, but there were no takers for the spectrum in the 700 MHz band. This band, considered as a super premium band, was put up for auction in a big chunk – 35+35 MHz each – in all the 22 service areas across the country for the first time. The industry has said financial strain on the industry and unrealistically high reserve price were the major reasons for the 700 MHz band not getting any bidder.
