Social media should not be fact-checking politicians’ posts, says Zuckerberg

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said he does not believe social media platforms should fact-check politicians’ posts, CNBC has reported.

“Political speech is one of the most sensitive parts in a democracy, and people should be able to see what politicians say,” Zuckerberg said in an interview.

The company, however, does have lines that no one, including politicians, is allowed to cross, Zuckerberg said, side-lining himself from the Trump-Twitter row that erupted earlier this week.

“I just believe strongly that Facebook shouldn’t be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online,” Zuckerberg told Fox News.

“Private companies probably shouldn’t be, especially these platform companies, shouldn’t be in the position of doing that,” he further added.
