Smartphone shipments in India for 2021 expected to be around 160-168 million: Market trackers

NEW DELHI: The smartphone shipment in India for 2021 is expected to be around 160-168 million, a slight rise over 2020, with the October-December quarter as well as the first half of 2022 likely to be hurt by the ongoing supply chain related challenges, market trackers said.

In a report, IDC said that the fourth quarter will see a decline in smartphone sales in the country due to the ongoing supply chain related challenges, resulting in annual shipments below 160 million in 2021 compared with 150 million in 2020. As per Counterpoint Research, the annual smartphone shipment in 2021 is expected to reach 168 million, up from 152 million in 2020. CMR, on its part, estimates a 5-8% on year growth in smartphone shipments this year.
