Smart manufacturing to get a fillip with 5G: Ericsson’s Nitin Bansal
5G has already gone live in several markets around the world and people are getting a first-hand experience of the technology. Initial use cases include Fixed Wireless Access and enhanced Mobile Broadband. Uptake is also fast – for instance, South Korea launched live commercial 5G networks in April 2019, and they reached 1 million 5G subscribers in just two months. We expect the global number of 5G subscriptions to top 190 million by the end of 2020 and 2.8 billion by the end of 2025. 5G will account for 18 percent of all mobile subscriptions by 2025.These forecasts are included in the June 2020 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report.
