Set age-limit for social media platforms: Karnataka High Court

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday said that the government should consider setting age limits for social media users. The platforms, the court said, could verify user ages with documents like Aadhaar cards, just like online gaming platforms are required to do.

A bench of Justices G Narender and Vijaykumar A Patil said school-going children were addicted to social media. “The child – maybe 17 or 18 – does he have the maturity to judge what is in the interest of the nation, what is not in the interest of the nation? Users should be at least the age of 21 years,” said Justice Narender.
