Secunderabad: Should telecom towers be erected in prime residential areas?
SECUNDERABAD: With residents of AWHO Colony angry over proposal to erect mobile phone towers, TOI asked its readers whether telecom towers be erected in residential areas
Erecting telecom towers in heavily populated residential areas can be a cause for concern. But if the authorities are sure that there would be no adverse effects once the towers are set up in busy areas, they must pass on this information to the residents in a responsible manner. Awareness drives must be organised to dispel the concerns that residents may have. Also, it is important to get urban planning experts involved to zero in on the best possible location to erect the towers. Telecom companies, too, must be asked to submit a report on poor signals and call-drop issues mentioned by residents.
