SC sacks two court staffers over mix-up in Ambani appearance order
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sacked two court officials responsible for a mix-up in posting an order directing Reliance Communications Chairman Anil Ambani to personally appear in a contempt of court case.
Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi dismissed court master Manav Sharma and assistant registrar Tapan Kumar Chakraborty on Thursday after they uploaded an order on the Supreme Court website that said Ambani’s presence in the case had been dispensed with, instead of stating that it had not been dispensed with.
Justices RF Nariman and Vineet Saran had turned down Ambani’s plea for exemption from personal appearance in the contempt of court case stemming from RCom’s failure to pay 550 crore due to Ericsson, for which he had given a personal guarantee.
