SC issues notice to MeitY on plea challenging internet shutdowns during competitive exams

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a public interest litigation moved by software policy group Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC), challenging Internet shutdowns ordered by state and central government departments during competitive exams to avoid cheating.

The apex court issued a notice to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, seeking its response to the petition.

In its plea, SFLC said such orders were “manifestly arbitrary” and a “wholly disproportionate response”.
