Samsung starts mass production of 16GB LPDDR5 DRAM
Samsung has commenced mass production of the industry’s first 16-gigabit (GB) LPDDR5 mobile DRAM at its production line in Pyeongtaek, Korea. The new 16GB LPDDR5 RAM is built on the company’s own third-generation 10nm-class (1z) processor using ultraviolet (EUV) technology. Samsung says that the new 16GB LPDDR5 is the first memory to be mass produced using EUV technology.
It is said to offer highest mobile memory performance and is claimed to have the largest capacity to enable benefits of 5G and AI features in next-generation smartphones. The new RAM features 6,400 megabits per second (Mb/s) speed and is claimed to be 16 percent faster than the 12GB LPDDR5 RAM which has a speed of 5,500Mb/s. The newly launched 16GB RAM, Samsung says, can transfer about ten 5GB-sized full-HD movies, or 51.2GB of data, in one second.
