Samsung, Stanford together make 10,000ppi OLED display: Here’s what it might be used for
Besides its smartphones, Samsung is also known for its smartphone screens. It has one of the best OLED screens in handsets and even Apple takes help from it for its iPhone screens. However, the South Korean tech firm is taking a step ahead in the display market as it has collaborated with Stanford University to create an OLED screen with resolutions of up to 10,000 pixels per inch (ppi). For reference, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra roughly has 500ppi.
But since this kind of a screen seems unusable on a smartphone screen, the display is said to help boost virtual and augmented reality technologies so users can see more realistic images that are more immersive. It has been mentioned that the company and the university expanded on existing designs for electrodes of ultra-thin solar panels. Also, the important innovation said here is the base layer of reflective metal with nanoscale corrugations called an optical metasurface.
