Samsung seems ‘inspired’ by Huawei Mate X’s design
Samsung, the company that became the first to launch a foldable phone this year, quickly got competition in the form of Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Although both are ‘foldable’ in nature, the major difference between the two was that while Samsung Galaxy Fold opened like a book with the screen placed on the inner side, the Mate X opened outwards with the screen acting as the cover. Now, Samsung also wants to go the Huawei way if the newly published patent is to be believed.
According to the diagrams seen in the patent, which was filed back in September 2018 in WIPO (via Lets Go Digital), the proposed foldable smartphone is seen sporting an outward fold. However, the only change here is that the fold is not side-to-side but top-to-bottom. There will also be a slider lock at the back of the device to keep the fold intact. The Mate X too has a fold screen lock at the back that you press to release the folded part and turn it into a tablet.
