Samsung overtakes Apple to become third largest mobile chipset manufacturer
NEW DELHI: Samsung is known for manufacturing smartphone, however, apart from smartphones the company also make other components such as display panels, storage and memory chip, camera sensors, and processors.
Now a new report by Counterpoint reveals that Samsung has surpassed Apple and has captured 3 positions in the global market for mobile processors. In 2019, Samsung managed to grab 14.1% market share globally. On the other hand, Apple had a total share of 13.1%.
Popular chipset manufacturers Qualcomm and MediaTek turned out to be the leaders in this segment with 33.4% and 24.6% market share respectively.
The report also mentions that in the list of top five SoC brands only Huawei and Samsung have shown growth. For those unaware, Samsung’s System LSI business manufacture chipsets under the Exynos brand which are used in smartphones from Samsung, Meizu and Vivo.
