Sam Altman to return as OpenAI CEO, says looking forward to ‘building on our strong partnership with Microsoft’

After last week’s dramatic events at OpenAI, which saw appointment of new interim CEO and the staff threatening to resign, Sam Altman is returning to the company he co-founded in 2015. In a latest post on X (previously Twitter), Altman confirmed that he is returning to OpenAI as the CEO. “I love OpenAi, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together,” he said.

He also spoke about his Microsoft hiring. “When I decided to join msft (Microsoft) on sun (Sunday) evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team.” He also made it clear that OpenAI will have a new board.
