Robot vacuum cleaner company deal: EU may have ‘good news’ for Amazon
After witnessing hiccups, Amazon may finally get Europe’s nod for its $1.7 billion acquisition of robot vacuum cleaner maker iRobot. The antitrust regulator in the UK has already given a green light to the deal.
Citing three people familiar with the matter, news agency Reuters reported that Amazon is set to win unconditional approval for acquisition by the European Commission. The Commission, which acts as the EU’s competition watchdog, has until February 14 to decide on the deal.
The development comes at a time when antitrust enforcers in multiple regions have stepped up scrutiny of Big Tech acquiring smaller rivals and investigating whether big players are leveraging their dominance to kill the competition.
