Republic TV moves trademark infringement plea against Telugu channel, seeks Rs 100 crore damages

News channel Republic TV recently approached the Bombay High Court seeking a restraining order against a Telangana-based news channel over alleged trademark infringement of its “R.” logo. The high court, however, refused to grant urgent relief as the matter was pending before the central government.

Alleging “unfair trade practice”, Republic TV also sought damages to the tune of Rs 100 crore from the defendant.

Rayudu Vision Media Limited, the Telangana YouTube news channel, told the court that it had sought permission from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) for change of their logo and their application was pending before the ministry,
