Reliance Jio seeks govt nod for 5G trial using self-designed tech: Report

“If the 5G technology foray was successful, the design and technology for equipment could be outsourced for manufacturing to third-party players,” said a source was quoted as saying by Business Standard.
Jio had submitted an application for trial with Korea’s Samsung, which is also the sole gear vendor for its pan-India 4G network.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is looking to start 5G field trials soon, having conducted meeting with telcos and their gear vendor partners to discuss use cases and their preparedness.
