Reliance Jio, BSNL drive telecom base to 1.16 mn in April

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea seem to have completed purging inactive customers from their networks, which has led to stabilisation of the country’s overall subscriber base to 1.16 billion in April.

As per data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the country’s overall number of mobile phone users had risen by more than 486,000 in April to reach 1.162 billion, a marginal increase which has been the trend since December 2018 with the exception of March.

In March 2019, India’s overall mobile user base dropped from 1.18 billion to 1.16 billion, as it saw a reduction of a massive 21.8 million users mainly done by the top two carriers by subscribers. The trend of reduction continued in April as well, but the scale has reduced considerably.
