Related party private labels may have to be stopped
NEW DELHI: The proposed e-commerce rules are likely to restrict all marketplaces, foreign and Indian, from hawking private labels produced by companies where they have “significant interest” or which are related parties – a move that will extend to everything from pulses to electronics.
The rules and the e-commerce policy, which have been finalised and are expected to be notified soon, will use terms provided under the Companies Act, sources familiar with the discussions told TOI. As reported by TOI, the principles were discussed at a meeting between commerce & industry and consumer affairs minister Piyush Goyal and company representatives on Wednesday.
