The founder of the website, Leif K-Brooks, stated that he decided to shut it down because he could no longer handle the stress and expense of operating Omegle and fighting its misuse.

Founded in 2009, Omegle was a platform that allowed users to interact with random people on the internet without revealing any personal information. The anonymous online chat service did not require any user registration, which might be one of the reasons why it became so popular.
