Proposals for local telecom gear production exceed government’s target

Investment proposals for local telecom gear manufacturing has vaulted past the government’s target of Rs 3000 cr with 36 global and Indian firms offering to invest Rs 4500 cr, giving a fillip to India’s target of making 2.44 lakh crore worth of telecom gear in the country by 2026.

“With the current interest, we feel confident that India should be able to reach the estimated production figures and export figure of Rs 2 lakh crore in the next five years,” a senior telecom department official told ET.
