Pilot programme for domestic renewal of H-1B visa start: What it is and why it is good news for Indian IT professionals

A pilot program that will permit certain H-1B visa holders to renew their H-1B visas within the United States (US) has been cleared by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) – the executive office of President Biden. The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. Technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China.

What this approval means

This approval puts the pilot program a step closer to implementation. The domestic visa renewal programme is only for work visas.
