Panel summons Twitter, Facebook officials on 6 March

NEW DELHI: Senior Twitter executives appeared before the parliamentary committee on information technology on Monday over complaints of bias against right-wing voices on the microblogging platform. The committee’s chairman said he has now summoned officials from Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram next month.

Twitter Inc. chief executive officer Jack Dorsey skipped the meeting despite being summoned but global vice-president of public policy for Twitter Colin Crowell and other colleagues attended the discussions in the backdrop of upcoming general elections.

The committee also summoned officials of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram on 6 March, in what is seen as a bid to pile on the pressure on social media platforms.
