PAN, Aadhaar linking last date extended by 3 months to 31 December

New Delhi: The Central Board of Direct Tax (CBDT) on Saturday extended the last date for intimating Aadhaar number and linking it with Permanent Account Number (PAN) by three months to December 31. The last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar was 30 September.

Biometrics identification enabled by Aadhaar proves the identity of the PAN holder. The move is expected to eliminate multiple PANs held by the same person with a motive to evade taxes. Linking the documents will make it easier for the Income Tax Department to analyse the income, assets and expenditure trends of individuals, and will also plug loopholes pertaining to tax evasions, if any.
