Over 44% of BSNL’s network gear sourced from ZTE, 9% from Huawei; Jio doesn’t work with Chinese vendors: Govt
NEW DELHI: Minister of State for Communications Sanjay Dhotre said that more than 44 per cent mobile network equipment of state-run telco BSNL is sourced from Chinese firm ZTE and 9 per cent from Huawei.
ZTE was the L-2 bidder for the last GSM network expansion project for BSNL, while Finland’s Nokia was the L-1 bidder.
“The Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) procure and deploy telecom equipment from vendors based on their techno-commercial interests provided they adhere to the security provisions given in the license. Hence, no such data is maintained by Department of Telecommunications (DoT),” he informed Parliament on Thursday while replying to a question on the market share of Chinese companies ZTE and Huawei in India,.
