OTT platforms like Meta, Google and WhatsApp to step up due diligence to curb pesky calls, phishing

New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) held a meeting with over-the-top (OTT) platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Meta and Google on Monday as part of joint efforts to devise measures to check pesky calls and messages as well as phishing attempts, officials said.

While a few models to check spam and phishing are being worked on, the regulator does not want to disclose the details so as not to alert fraudsters, they said.
