Opposition seeks JPC probe into Arnab Goswami’s WhatsApp chats
NEW DELHI: Opposition parties have sought answers from the government over the reported WhatsApp chats between Republic TV editor in chief Arnab Goswami and Partho Dasgupta, the former CEO of the Broadcast Audience Research Council, alleging that those showed a “serious breach of national security”.
They demanded an investigation, including by a Joint Parliamentary Committee, into the contents of the chats, the transcripts of which are part of the Mumbai Police’s supplementary charge sheet in the TV rating point (TRP) manipulation case.
“The charge sheet and WhatsApp (conversation) are damning,” AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said at a press briefing on Sunday. “There are far, far bigger issues of financial fraud and breach of national security, and of people committing acts inimical to the security of the country” involved in it, he said.
