Opinion | Facebook is tracking you
If you’re immersed in literature, it’s romantic to keep a diary of your private moments. But imagine if the same gets replicated online, with someone or something watching every move you make. Well, that’s what Facebook has apparently been up to. You might say it’s no big deal, that a lot of those apps on your phone do it. But this is scandalous for another reason—for it seems it was being done even if your tracker was switched off. Or so it was revealed by a Facebook response to a query posed by a couple of US senators. The company admitted that it can track the location of its users even after they opt not to be tracked.
The company has detailed three ways in which it can receive information of users: one, when a user enables it voluntarily; two, through checking-in and tagging posts; and three, by reading a device’s Internet Protocol address.
