OpenAI may not offer board seat to Microsoft, other investors, here’s why

Despite having made a massive investment in OpenAI, Microsoft does not have a seat on the company’s board; and it is likely to remain the way it is. According to a report, the company that made AI chatbots mainstream is not planning to give seats on its new board to investors.

The Information reported that none of its investors, including its largest backer Microsoft, will get a seat on the new board, which is said to have 9 members. While the new board hasn’t been finalised, it is unlikely to add members from shareholders.

Citing a person familiar with the situation, the report said that giving a seat to investors may conflict with the mission of the nonprofit that governs the startup. Apart from Microsoft, the company’s investors include Khosla Ventures and Thrive Capital.
