Ookla says 4G speeds improved in India only a bit
NEW DELHI: Ookla, a US-based data-speed tester, said 4G speeds have improved in India, but only marginally and at a slower pace than expected. This small increase in data speeds isn’t enough to enhance user experience, even as service quality is also being affected due to network congestion, Ookla cofounder Doug Suttles told ET.
In January-March 2019, the average 4G LTE download speed in India across all mobile carriers was 10.58 Mbps compared with 9.84 Mbps Mbps in the same quarter of 2018. On the coverage side, 4G was 89.8% available across India in the first quarter of 2019, as per Ookla.
