Online shopaholics beware: Symantec says cybercrooks have a new key to your bank account

Cybersecurity firms never fail to come up with harmless-sounding monikers, such as ‘phishing’, for dangerous problems. ‘Formjacking’ is the most recent addition to that list.

Cybersecurity firm Symantec Corp’s latest Internet Security Threat Report highlights the increasing number of attacks involving malware inserted on online retail websites to steal shoppers’ payment card details.

Unlike cryptojacking and ransomware where users can take defensive measures, in formjacking there is little that the end user can do as the malware is targeted at the servers of retailers. Data is siphoned off from one end of the network chain and then sold on the dark web.
