NEW DELHI: The 28% GST proposed on online gaming on the face value of “bets placed” is seen to be higher than the prevailing levy in several European countries that follow a similar principle.
Countries such as France, Germany, Portugal and Poland impose tax on the contest entry amount (CEA), which is seen as the equivalent of the face value formula recommended by the GST Council earlier this week. But the tax rates vary from 5. 3% in Germany to 11% in France and 12% in Poland, data sourced by TOI from a leading consulting firm showed.
