OnePlus to focus on offline expansion, manufacturing and R&D in 2020

India contributes one-third to OnePlus’ global business outside its home market of China, a senior executive at the smartphone maker said. Currently, 70% of its overall business is from outside of China.

Starting 2020, the company will focus on its offline expansion, manufacturing and research and development in India, country head Vikas Aggarwal told ET.

While OnePlus has been manufacturing in India for the past four years, mostly for the local market, it recently started exporting 5G smartphones to the US from here. It aims to make India a major development hub for 5G with a larger focus on the global markets next year.

OnePlus will be strengthening its research and development facility in Hyderabad where it employs 250 of its India staff of around 400, Aggarwal said. It plans to scale this facility to more than 1,000 people in the next two years.
