NPCI plans to take UPI to Gulf nations, including Bahrain and Saudi Arabia

NPCI is in talks with Gulf countries, including Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, to expand its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service in those nations. The discussions are currently in early stages, but the Gulf countries are showing interest.

UPI will be helpful to millions of Indians who live and work in the Gulf countries and have to regularly transfer part of their income to their families in India.

Dilip Asbe, managing director and chief executive, NPCI, said, “NPCI is in initial discussions with a few Gulf countries for developing cross-border remittances using UPI, which will be primarily bank account-to-bank account transfers.
