Now, H-1Bs laid off from Amazon need jobs fast

BENGALURU: Like those in Meta and Twitter, Indian employees on H-1B visas who were laid off by Amazon in the US are racing against time to find a new job. They have to do it in 60 days; if not, they’ll have to return to India.

Raj Kansagra, who was a software development engineer at Amazon, was among the estimated 10,000 people laid off. He had spent six years in the firm. “I’m actively seeking my next opportunity. I’m reaching out to my network for positions in backend software engineering (product/infra). I’m on an H-1B visa so time is of the essence to find something new,” he wrote in a LinkedIn post.

Dixitha Kasturi, who worked as a software development engineer with AlexaAI for six months, said her Amazon journey was cut short. “The layoff was attributed to downsizing/prioritising projects, my team unfortunately was hit with a layoff. This brings me back to square one and I am now actively looking for SDE / data science roles. As an individual on Student Visa (Optional Practical Training) I am time bound as well,” she wrote in a LinkedIn post.
