Not in favour of banning Twitter but norms must be followed: Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

NEW DELHI: The government is not in favour of banning any platform but everyone needs to follow the law, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told ANI on Thursday amid Twitter losing its legal shield in the country.

The Union IT minister said that Twitter lost its legal immunity as it failed to comply with the rules, despite being given a three-month period and an extension on top of that.

“We gave them (Twitter) 3 months’ time. Others have followed, they haven’t. Rule 7 of (IT) guidelines says if you don’t comply then under Sector 79 you may lose intermediary status and become liable to other laws including penal laws of the country,” Prasad said.
