Nokia says achieved 100 customers milestone for Quillion-based broadband solutions

Finnish telecoms gear maker Nokia said its Quillion chipset-based broadband solutions are being used by 100 customers, and it is being deployed in more than 40 countries globally.

It should be noted that Nokia started shipping the in-house designed Quillion based solutions in 2020.

According to Nokia, most of its fiber shipments today are based on the Quillion ‘Multi-PON’ solutions that support 10Gb/s passive optical networks and it also enables 256Gb/s for high-capacity applications, such as for 5G transport.

Further, the early customers for the GPON or XGS-PON include companies like Proximus, Chorus, Telefonica, KPN, Oi Brazil, TDS Telecom, Hotwire Communications, and TIM.

“Operators need innovative solutions that will enable them to keep up with the demand, keep cost under control and future proof their networks, including using fiber for 5G transport. We have developed Quillion to ensure we can bring state-of-the-art solutions that our customers need,” said Sandra Motley, President, Fixed Networks Division at Nokia

Used in copper cabinets, the Qullion series equipment is claimed to reduce rack space by half, allowing companies to support twice the number of customers. It is also said to increase line speeds through noise cancellation techniques.

“We chose to partner with Nokia because their Quillion-based tech lets us start with 2.5Gb/s speeds, but gives us the flexibility to move to 10Gb/s and even 25Gb/s symmetrical as our customers’ needs evolve,” added Patrick Delcoigne, Network Engineering & Operations Director, Proximus.
