Nokia phones may offer e-SIM support soon

Till now, only Apple and Google offer e-SIM support for their handsets. However, it seems like that the next smartphone brand that may offer support for this tech is HMD. The company that owns the license to manufacture and sell Nokia-branded smartphones is expected to launch at least 3 handsets at the upcoming Mobile World Congress trade show or MWC 2020.

Ahead of the event, the firm has filed a patent for a new embedded SIM card (or eSIM) card with European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for a technology called SIMLEY. Spotted by Lets Go Digital, this technology will also support bank-related activities which either means that the e-SIM acts as an additional security layer eliminating risk of data theft or it plans to set up its own payment service.
