Nokia phone maker HMD to bring component partners to India; says telco support must for 4G feature phone

BARCELONA: HMD Global, the maker of Nokia branded mobile phone, said that it is in active discussions with its global component companies for local manufacturing in India through its contract manufacturing partner Foxconn to drive costs down and offer competitive operating price for consumers as the tax holiday on components under the phased manufacturing program (PMP) is set to end.

It may also join hands with a new contract manufacturer to increase production capacity in India, a top executive said.

In an exclusive interaction with ET, HMD chief executive Florian Seiche also said that India has the potential to become a manufacturing hub for the company for other countries. “We have the vision to bring component ecosystem to India.
