Nokia, Deutsche Telekom begin multi-vendor Open RAN network deployment in Germany
NEW DELHI: Nokia Tuesday and Deutsche Telekom (DT) have begun the deployment of a multi-vendor Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) with Fujitsu in Germany, days after the Finnish gear maker’s Swedish rival Ericsson and AT&T announced they will deploy an Open RAN network in the US under a multi-year $14 billion contract.
Nokia Tuesday said OpenRAN is fully integrated into DT’s live commercial network, and it will initially offer 2G, 4G and 5G services to the telco’s customers in the Neubrandenburg area of Northern Germany.
The deal marks a significant return for Nokia into DT’s commercial network. It builds upon the agreement signed between the two companies earlier this year.
