Noida: Oppo alleges bias against Chinese employees, head of RWA booked

The RWA president of a housing society in Greater Noida was booked after the management of Oppo filed a complaint accusing him of discriminating against the company’s Chinese employees living in the condominium.

The Oppo management said the company’s employees living in ATS Green Paradiso have not only been harassed, citing one instance when eight of them were allegedly made to wait outside the gate for 45 minutes, the RWA even went on to fine them Rs 50,000. The company said the RWA does not allow its Chinese employees to enter or step out of the society after 7pm.

Last Friday, the eight staffers were made to wait at the gate because they reached after 7pm, Oppo said. The RWA later claimed the fine was imposed because the Oppo staffers had “littered” the flats.

The complaint was filed by Sharad Dixit, the administrative head of Oppo in Noida. He alleged that though other residents of the society moved freely after 7pm, the Chinese nationals were asked to stay indoors.

‘There is nothing wrong in what we are doing’

The area where the society is located is not a containment zone and the administration’s guidelines do not impose any curbs on movement there.

Dixit said there are 57 Chinese nationals staying in 40-odd flats at Green Paradiso. These accommodations have been provided to them by the company.

“There is already a communication gap between the residents and the Chinese men as they don’t speak each other’s language. The rude behaviour of the society guards and RWA functionaries is only adding to the misery. They are so disturbed that they have sought immediate relocation,” Dixit said.

Alleged misbehaviour by the RWA had prompted a 25-year-old Chinese national to lock himself up in his flat last month after residents insisted he was Covid positive. The health department took his samples and the result was negative.

“We have been getting complaints about the behaviour of the RWA and neighbours towards our Chinese employees. So, we decided to approach the police and lod ge a complaint,” the official said.

DCP (zone 3) Rajesh Kumar Singh said the FIR had been filed against Somveer Singh under Section 342 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC, “We have lodged a complaint and efforts are being made to resolve the dispute. The RWA president has been asked to report to the local police station,” he said.

Singh, however, remained defiant, saying no resident was allowed to enter or leave the society after 7pm. “There is nothing wrong in what we are doing. The fine was issued against them because too many people are living in one flat and they litter a lot. We are discussing the matter and hope to reach aconclusion soon,” said Singh. He denied the allegation that the Chinese residents were not allowed to enter the society.

A source said the eight Oppo staffers had refused to touch the pen and entry register at the gate, insisting that they be sanitised first. “They asked the guards instead to enter their details and kept standing there until someone from the RWA intervened and allowed them to enter,” the source said.
