No surge pricing in cabs during peak hours, if Delhi govt’s Motor Vehicle Aggregator policy gets final approval

Cab aggregators in Delhi may not be permitted to hike fare during peak hours, if the city government has its way.

According to the draft of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Scheme, 2023, which was approved by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday and sent to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena for further approval, companies will have to comply with existing fare for taxis notified by the transport department.

This isn’t the first time that the government has proposed a limit on surge pricing. Last year, a policy which said fare could not be more than twice the base (including surge pricing) was proposed. Suggestions were invited from stakeholders in January 2022. It, however, was never notified.
