New online fraud: Now Kolkata Doctors get ‘suicide’ extortion calls

KOLKATA: Cyber crooks have started targeting doctors and the salaried class in a new form of online fraud in which the victims are now getting video calls during working hours. A video conversation – mostly related to a consultation or a job interview by a young woman at the other end – then takes place. The caller ends the call on a happy note. And the ordeal of the victim starts thereafter.

“After a gap of a few hours, a message is sent to the victim with the information that the woman the victim had spoken to earlier in the day had died by suicide. It is claimed the woman took such a drastic decision as she was hurt by the victim’s words.
