New IT rules a deterrent against cyber crimes: MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar

The new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines And DigitalMedia Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (IT Rules 2021) acts as a deterrent against cyber crime and ensures an open, safe and trusted and accountable internet for its users, Union minister of state for electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

While allaying fears around the data security breach, Chandrasekhar said that there was no risk to the personal data from the new IT rules. According to the Union MoS, social media platforms are required to enable users to voluntarily verify their accounts and provide them with visible marks of verification.
